  2. Whats the point of voting overseas when the candidates get declared straight after election before overseas votes arrive? Unless its a very close vote like in the dozens … there is no point and some has to travel 100s of miles at their expense just to put a cross in the ballot?

  9. 300K overseas Singaporeans, and only 6K registered to vote of which a few votes were made illegitimate due to a glitch
The election was so close, the 300K overseas SIngaporeans are about 10% of TOTAL eligible votes
This is a huge deal. They would have swung the election. And its a good guess, the majority abroad would vote opposition

  17. Time for the Singapore government to enable online voting for those living overseas. We have Singpass and 2FA, so don't see how it can be that difficult to implement.

  19. didn't we always pride ourselves in efficient administration? what had gone wrong? too comfortable for far too long, left brains in the toilets? Have been thinking on their jobs – Election Department, you are set up to serve the citizens, remember?

  21. Obviously hidden motives in calling an election now. Don't worry, this is a marathon not a sprint. All these overseas Singaporeans will be wiser at the next GE.

My ward is at AMK:)

  25. This morning, the cumbersome "safety" measures at polling stations in Singapore are causing major delays and INCREASING COVID RISKS for old voters waiting in long queues. Me and my wife went home after seeing the scary long queues of old people mixed with many young care givers.. Two PAP votes down the drain.

  28. During 7% GST, clients will force you to absorb by discounting on contract price, lower your profit. Contract sums and price continue to face tsunami as local and foreign companies compete for projects and contracts. As labour and material cost continue to constant raise, we have no ways to raise wages as SMEs need reserves to stay afloat.

    9% GST , better close shop…

  30. Why can both overseas and local citizens vote online using our laptop or mobile aps? We can use Singpass its convenient no need to travel outside due to this serious Covid outbreak…. We are Smart TechSavvy Nation and why no politician raise this idea ? Why we are not making use of technology?

  32. im in Berlin and there's no way for me to travel to london under these circumstances. i would have to be quarantined for 2 weeks upon entry in the uk and that's a ridiculous amount of time to waste just to cast a vote. clearly not thought out well and very suspicious why elections have been called in this period when there's still plenty more months before the deadline of the election to be held

  34. Why are the thousands of sgeans who desperately emailed ELD, because of voting inaccessibility, IGNORED by ALL OFFICIAL BODIES, why isn't the news reporting this instead? How many of your reporters tried to join the sg overseas voters fb group to snoop for stories. Then later the article also dont go through approval because "not compelling enough". But misrepresenting our INABILITY to vote as a mere light inconvenience to vote, is a compelling piece of news??

  38. It's not only good to be part of the democratic process, it's about performing your civic duty as a responsible citizen of this country. This is not much different from showing up on enlistment day and becoming an NSF. To that end, we have to be informed, do our due diligence and study what the candidates have done or can do for the benefit of society.
