Amazon.com Review Riedel continues to impress the wine world with its innovative designs. The Tyrol line, released in 2007, adopts an intermediary position between the completely stemless O wine tumblers that set a national trend and Riedel's long-stemmed, more fragile beauties. Each Tyrol glass features a short stem, more of a foot really, that is half of a solid sphere, lending great stability and reducing breakage worries. Crafted in Bavaria of sparkling leaded crystal yet dishwasher-safe, Tyrol is perfect for a casual, more contemporary approach to fine dining at home. This set includes two Tyrol Cabernet glasses, the second largest in volume of the entire collection (only the Shiraz glass is larger). Each Cabernet glass holds a maximum capacity of 24-1/8 ounces and stands 6-1/8 inches tall. While designed to bring out the best attributes of full-bodied red wines such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, the glasses also work excellently for beer and soft drinks. Out of a long 250-year history, the renowned Riedel glass company has been based in the Austrian state of Tyrol for 50 years now, hence the commemorative name of the new collection. --Ann Bieri

I've tried the other traditional stemmed Riedel wine glasses for everyday: expensive and broke very easily, so we were frequently replacing them. And they didn't fit in the dishwasher.
These Tyrol glasses, look great on the table, fit comfortably in the hand, fit neatly in the dishwasher and perform very well. Their solid glass base is similar to my expensive formal Baccarat crystal wine glasses, but at a fraction of the price. What more could you want!
Excellent - Highly Recommended August 11, 2008 Brian Matthew I was looking for some "everyday" dishwasher safe wine glasses and these are the best. They don't streak, fit easily into the dishwasher and allow big reds to breathe. I still pull out my fancy ones for special occasions but don't like having to hand wash them. These are great, stylish and I highly recommend them. Ordering more as I'd dropped two of them. I'm a clutz!
great, but late January 8, 2008 K. Custer 1 out of 6 found this review helpful
I would have given it a 5 star rating if it had arrived on the estimated date of new years eve. Instead it arrived 2 days later. It was one hour away from my house on the 29th.
Wanted to compare to Riedel "O" December 27, 2007 Dee Sondergard (Illinois, USA) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I've been a fan of the Riedel "O" glass for a number of years and wanted to try this new addition to the "little or no stem" glass. These have more stability than the "O" but are a bit clunky. My jury is still out. First impression is that I'd stick with Riedel "O" glass. Benefit might be that these are less fragile.
Everyday stemware, but you still need to be careful February 17, 2009 A. Wickman (Lincoln, Nebraska United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
We got some of these after my wife knocked over a wine glass on the table. She didn't break the glass(!), but there was wine all over lots of things that shouldn't have wine on them. She wanted to get something for frequent use that wouldn't be as difficult to knock over.
We looked at these and the "O" glasses, but thought that these would be easier to handle. In those regards, these glasses fill the bill. Nevertheless, in terms of being good for everyday use, they are still quite breakable crystal (versus Tritan or something like that). In my view, the perfect "everyday" stemware would be shaped like this, but would be a little thicker at the top and/or made of a different material.
As for tasting your wine, the pictures show the shape well enough. Versus other shorter stemware (except for the "O"), I feel that it is of adequate/optimum size for a good tasting experience. But I certainly don't fancy myself as an expert on that count.
As we break them (which we already have), I'll purchase more unless a Tritan or similar comes out in this same shape.
